TRUMP’S CHINA VISIT: TURNING POINT — OR JUST BUYING TIME?
By Laszlo Enyedi • May 15, 2026
Donald Trump’s visit to China raises a larger question than trade deals or diplomatic symbolism. The real issue is whether this trip marks the beginning of a genuine shift in relations between the United States and China.
For years, economic dependence and geopolitical rivalry have existed side by side. Tariffs, technology restrictions, military tensions in the Pacific, and disputes over supply chains have steadily pushed both countries toward confrontation, even while trade between them remains enormous.
The question now is whether Trump’s approach can produce real structural change in the relationship, or whether this visit will simply slow down tensions without altering the deeper strategic direction of either side.
